We are a family operation located in the short grass prairie of Stoneham, Colorado. Glenn and Stephanie Carlson bought their first cows in the spring of 1989 and have been ai'ing and selecting cattle based on phenotypic traits and real world performance. Both Glenn and Stephanie livestock judged at Colorado State University and passed that passion on two their two children Kamber and Clay. They both excelled at the collegiate level bringing home several purple banners and Clay won the Bronze Bull in Denver in 2013. Kamber is married to Patrick Halde and together they have a son, Porter, who is responsible for developing our own docility scoring system. Clay married Lindsey, and together they blessed our family this past April with a set of twin baby girls, Lakelyn and Palmer. We all haven't quite gotten used to calling Clay the Doctor he is but he sure is handy to have around the ranch! Dr. Clay Carlson received his DVM from K-State University in 2023.
Our philosophy for developing bulls is to focus on raising athletes. When these bulls and heifers were weaned, they were placed on a ration designed to GROW them, NOT fatten them. They will be on this ration until we transition them off to forage only prior to turn out to grass. This allows for the animals to develop slowly but CORRECTLY. A fat bull has a tendency to have feet issues, lower semen quality, and decreased longevity. Our bulls will be on the green side compared to most bulls you will look at in the country. But remember, these are athletes, not fat steers. We do love the look of a 1400lb yearling bull but if he isn't going to be around for more than a year or two, we ask, is that where your investment should be made?
Porter and Glenn's rating on our bulls docility is below. You won't find any train station bulls around here. We strive to make quiet cattle that are easy to handle in any situation.
5 Stars-Teddy Bear
